EXAMS

Hi friends.

First of all, I am greatly obliged to all those who showed an immense support to this blog by liking it’s fb page, thanks to all of them. This is a huge motivation for me and I will try to keep improving to give you better posts in future.

Different people say different things should be given priority in college. But one thing that is commonly said by everyone - don’t dare to mess with your academics, otherwise you will repent it later. For good academics, one need to perform decently in exams, so here I am writing my new blog entry about the most horrendous topic for any student of any college anywhere in the world-EXAMS!

I would like to start with a small description of the nature of exams at IITs. Just like any other college, exams of IIT consist of class tests, mid semester examinations, practical labs and end term examinations, but some professors may also give a little bit of weightage to attendance as well (most of us hate this. Why do they force us to attend their stupid boring classes?) Now coming to the environment during exam time, a feeling of tension is spread amongst all students. Studies are the priority and at their peak during complete exam time. Books which were earlier seen only in the shelves of rooms now occupy every corner of the room with group study and night-outs becoming quite frequent :P (All this happen because 1 week before the start of exams, most students realize that it is necessary to ‘study’ for decent performance in exams :P). Library become extremely crowded as students find it the best place to study for complete night.

In my opinion, students during exam time can be divided broadly in 4 categories:-
1.       Maggu: - These are generally the best performing students and are called ‘maggu’ (a common word used for very studious students). These students are the only set of punctual species left in college (believe me; it’s very difficult to remain punctual in college). Other students seek their help (such as photocopying of notes) as they are the only one who have already completed their studies when others are just about to begin!
2.       General: - These students start their study about 1 week before the start of exams. Most of these students end up having decent grades in their exams.
3.       Last-timers: - These students study just at the last moment which results in low grades for most of them. Some students even don’t know the syllabus till the last and have to ask their friends about the syllabus. Some even play games and watch movies one night before the exam!
4.       Talented: - These are the most interesting and mysterious students. Such students will always say to you that they haven’t studied anything or they are going to fail in exams but only God knows how they always land up much ahead of you! Even after the results, they would say all this as just a fluke or luck! (Why is my fluke or luck not this good?)

Well, that is all about my opinion on exams and students during exams. I hope you enjoyed reading it.

Goodbye

PROFESSORS & CLASSES

Hi friends.

First of all I would like to apologize for my delay with my new blog entry. I was busy in college due to academic work (it seems a bit funny to be ‘busy’ in college; that too due to academic work! But yes; I was busy), so I was unable to give proper time to my blog. But now, after my first semester is over, I have ample amount of time for blogging (it’s difficult to believe that first semester is over; it’s true that time flows very fast). The next thing I would like to mention is that this blog entry aims to present the scenario of a typical IIT college classroom.

IIT is a place full of surprises and things not to be expected. One of those surprises are the classes and professors of IIT. Most of the students of IIT (including me) expected absolutely brilliant professors, but the reality turned out to be quite opposite. Though all the professors are full of knowledge (some have done masters from one of the greatest universities!), still the classes are too boring and sleepy (Actually you feel weird if you don’t feel drowsy in class someday!! That is the level of boredom in class :P). Bunking the class is extremely normal, resulting in an attendance of as low as 15-20% in some subjects!  Well…maybe the reason of such a great number of students bunking the class is the ‘fact’ that the knowledge before the start and after the end of the class is absolutely the same, as we understand absolutely nothing in the class! The class is really non-interactive, barely any interaction between professor and student takes place during the class (Except some extremely studious students who ask their doubts, with others imagining that how are they able to understand anything!). Now I have come to realize that even the worst of the coaching teachers are better than my college professors and I wish that they come to teach us again (Alas! this cannot be true L). The most surprising thing is that while professor is teaching, many students sitting at the back are fearlessly using mobile, enjoying whatsapp and fb. The best scene is during a break between 2 classes, where all the students have their head down checking their notifications of fb and whatsapp.

But it’s not that all professors and classes are of the same nature. There are some really very good professors too (for eg, our maths professor is so good that students from other section attend his class!). So, we experience different types of classes and professors at IIT out of which some are totally different from our expectations.

Well, this is it for today. I hope this entry helped you to get a good overview of a typical IIT classroom.

Goodbye
